
DIFI participated on in the 5th Budapest Demographic Summit in Hungary
In Commemoration to the 10th anniversary of Qatar’s accession to the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), DIFI with the Human Rights Directorate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to hold an event titled: “From Ratification to Implementation: Celebrating 10 years of CEDAW “
Objectives
The event will explore the critical role that the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) played in promoting the empowerment of women and girls in the Arab Region, with specific focus on Qatar. It will also shed lights on the role played by the convention on empowering women in other parts of the world resulting in concrete advances for societies worldwide.
International and regional policymakers, representatives of international development organizations, representatives of Women’s National Machineries and NGO leaders will come together to share experiences on how CEDAW has paved the way for significant progress in women’s rights, and to discuss the way forward in addressing gaps in women’s voice, agency, participation, and access to justice in different contexts and countries.
This event will provide opportunity to share best practices and learn about the support that the UN and other international partners can provide to overcome the aforementioned challenges. It will provide a venue to show case on how governments and civil society worked together to enhance capacity and practical expertise to empower women and foster their rights using CEDAW as an informative tool to guide their action and move ahead.

Participants
Civil society members representing diverse constituencies from social protection, human rights, poverty elimination and other stakeholders’ communities will be identified and invited to participate in this Conference. The event will provide a unique opportunity to engage leaders, policy makers, UN officials, educators, government officials; parliamentarians and others important stakeholders from Qatar, the Arab Region and the international arena alike.
