DIFI Participates in the 57th Session of the Commission for Social Development at the UN

The Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), a member of Qatar Foundation, participated in a series of panels during 57th Session of the Commission for Social Development at the UN Headquarters, New York. DIFI began its participation on February 12, 2019 with organizing the Doha Briefing in partnership with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the International Federation for Family Development (IFFD) organized.

The Doha Briefing will present the “Civil Society Statement” on which was launched at the meeting for civil society organizations, prior the international Conference titled “Parenting, Child Wellbeing, and Development” which was held under the patronage of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, hosted by DIFI in partnership with IFFD on October 22, 2018, Doha, Qatar.

Another event took place the same day where DIFI co-organized with the Family Development (IFFD) a panel to discuss the “Value of Unpaid Care and Domestic Work” in collaboration the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, UN-DESA Division for Inclusive Social Development, the International Federation for Home Economics.

In sidelines with the event DIFI also participated in a session held by the Qatar Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs under the title “Strategy of the Social Protection Sector in the State of Qatar: Promotion and Protection of the Family”on the 12th February 2019 with a presentation entitled “Public-Private Partnerships in Family Policy: The Model of the State of Qatar” presented by Dr. Sharifa Al Emadi, Executive Director of DIFI.

DIFI concluded its activities in the 57th Session of the Commission for Social Development at the UN with organizing a panel discussion titled ‘Towards Family Sensitive Protection”, on February 14, 2019 in collaboration with Mission of the State of Qatar to the UN, UNDISA/DESA, ESCWA, Berkeley Social Welfare, and the International council of Social Welfare.

DIFI is a global policy and advocacy institute working to advance knowledge on Arab families through research and promote evidence-based polices at a national, regional, and international level. The institute has special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
