
The Center for Gulf Studies at Qatar University organized the 8th annual international interdisciplinary conference entitled “Gulf Families:Continuity and Change” in collaboration with the Doha International Family Institute
The State of Qatar will host a global conference, organized by Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), and with support from UNDESA, to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family (IYF+30). on “Family and Contemporary Megatrends” on October 29-31, 2024.
The IYF+30 conference will provide a platform for leaders, policymakers, academics, practitioners, youth, NGOs and relevant stakeholders to engage and debate on the impact of the four megatrends on the family. It will also aim to recommend the development and implementation of policies and programs that can effectively support and empower families and thus will influence the global agenda on the family for the next ten years.
In June 2020, the Focal Point on the Family, Division for Inclusive Social Development, Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) organized an expert group meeting in preparation for the IYF+30 and addressed progress made with regards to family policy development at the international level identifying 4 mega-trends as emerging issues to be tackled leading up to the commemoration of the IYF+30.
The 4 mega-trends are: Demographic Trends, Migration and Urbanization, Climate Change and Technological Changes.
