DIFI & GCC Social Affairs Ministerial Council sign MoU

Date: October 27, 2015

DIFI signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the Executive Bureau of GCC Social Affairs Ministers Council.

Through the MOU, both parties aim to strengthen relations and consolidate cooperation to allow optimal use of potential and resources. They further seek to adopt a common approach to raising urgent issues that address the changing requirements of sustainable development in light of globalization and its effects.

DIFI Executive Director Noor Al Malki Al Jehani emphasized that the agreement supported the QF vision to promote human, social and economic development in the State of Qatar, and bolster DIFI’s objectives to advance international knowledge of Arab family issues and ensure that family-related issues are a top priority for policy makers.

“Since the Executive Bureau also aims at protecting the family through legislation and laws regulating the welfare of families and family members, protecting their rights and building their social, cultural, economic and educational capacities, this MOU will allow us to raise common issues and objectives relating to the Arab family,” Ms Al Malki said.

Aqeel Ahmed Al-Jassim, the Executive Bureau’s Director General, highlighted the defining areas of collaboration as “the exchange of programs and action plans in areas of mutual interest and common agreements regarding family-related topics. In addition, he stressed that research will be focused on developing, executing and assessing policies and programs pertaining to families, women, children and the elderly in the countries of the GCC. We hope this will help to identify and highlight the risks faced by families in the Gulf and the vulnerable members of society, and to convey recommendations in that regard.”
